A person's immoral choices can come back to haunt him/her

A person's past can never be truly forgotten. It can be ignored for great amounts of time but the mistakes made in life will always resurface. When one, for example, lies or cheats, it is rare that these occurrences will never be brought up a second time, and with the slip of the tongue or a lapse in memory, the truth eventually gets out. People with a heavy conscience also eventually expose their immorality. The choices made by people affect them forever; it has how we were made; to feel the wrath of our decisions.

Revenge is the only way to gain justice.

Revenge is not the only way to gain justice. However that does not mean it is not necessary at times. First other means to achieve justice must be tried before taking revenge. For example if a person commiting crimes is going unpunished by the authorities and nothing or nobody else is stopping them than revenge may be necessary. However the person taking revenge should know that in society today taking revenge puts you in the wrong. Taking revenge should though, only be used as a last resort; when everything else has tried and failed only then should revenge be taken.

A person has to confront death in order to understand life’s meaning.

No one has to confront death to experience life's meaning. Death only puts the life we know into perspective. A near death experience can show how fragile life is and how easy it can be taken away, but it will not show you life's meaning. From a Christian perspective, life's meaning is to follow in the footsteps laid by Jesus Christ, accept Him, do as God commands us, and make believers out of others through the Bible's teachings and your actions. As a result, you will live forever in heaven. Because of this, a non christian who is involved in a near death experience will not discover the meaning of life, but rather discover the delicateness of life. This may result in them personally seeking an answer of why we were put on this planet. Hopefully we as Christians share the true meaning of life with them.

  4. a person's immoral choices can come back to haunt him/her.

I strongly agree that a person's immoral descisions can come back to haunt them. If your a drug dealer there's a chance you'll get arrested. If you sleep around with women other than your wife then you might get an STD. The statement said "can come back." so obiously pepole can live their whole life immoraly and not get any things to haunt them. But generally if you play with fire, you will get burnt.

Having a Clear Goal, and the Ambition to Achieve it, is Honourable

Yes, having a clear goal, and the ambition to achieve it, is honourable. Let's say we have to different cultural/ethnic groups in faraway distant lands. They both have a meaningful ritual much like our funerals, as in they honour their deceased parents; from the Western perspective this would likely mean burying them or cremation. However, cultural relativity exists. As one of these groups may practice similar tradition to Westerners, they other group may eat their deceased elders in order to gain their wisdom. Remember that both are honouring according to their own culture, even as it the groups traditions may seem highly disrespectful to each other. This is to say honour is relative to culture.

So because of this demonstrated cultural relativity, I argue that having a clear goal, and the ambition to achieve would be honourable within any cultural. If you disagree, is it then possible to not say laziness is honourable?

A person's immoral choices can come back to haunt him/her.

I strongly agree that any choice a person makes will come back to affect them later in life. No matter what the choice is, moral or immoral, every action has a consequence.

If somebody is an extremely nice person, and constantly goes out of out their way to help others, chances are they will somehow be rewarded in the future.

If a person makes an extremely immoral choice, like dealing drugs, then they will definitely face the consequences. They will either go to jail, or get shot.

No matter what the action, the effects will be felt sometime in the future.

One must take a stand against injustice, even if the personal cost is great.

There was this incident on the news a while ago, where a ‘good Samaritan’ tried to stop a thief from mugging a woman, got stabbed multiple times and passed out on the sidewalk. All of this took place in New York City. A security camera took footage of the scene and person after person walked right on by. Around 20+ people walked by before someone decided to check him out; emergency services were called more than an hour later.
For the ‘good Samaritan’ the personal cost was huge, and he suffered brutally for it. Maybe he shouldn’t have helped the woman; then he’d be alive today.
But what about the people who walked by? The cost of helping the ‘good Samaritan’ was very small.
It really wouldn’t have killed those people if they had stopped and at least phoned 911. They must have seen the man lying there, thought he was drunk and used this as an excuse to walk right by.
Today if others tend to ignore a problem then we do too. Most often we walk right by hoboes and even people we know could use some help. We just can’t be bothered to step out of daily routine. We make excuses for our actions without realizing that we have the opportunity to potentially save people from their circumstances, from depression or mental illness and even saving their lives. I’m not saying I haven’t done this myself; I’ve probably walked or even drove by millions of hoboes who obviously need help, in my lifetime. I just think that something is wrong with this and we need to change out of our self-centered lifestyles and reach out to others who could use a big or small hand.

A person has to confront death in order to understand life’s meaning.

I strongly agree with the statement above. Many students will disagree with this statement, but most of them have not have experienced losing someone in their own lives. When you lose someone who played a significant role in your life, you re-evaluate everything. You actually ask questions like “why am I here?” or “what is the point of living if one day we are all meant to die?” These are the types of questions you only ask after you have experienced the reality of death. Last year my great-grandmother passed away, and I had never pondered these questions until after she was gone. I never understood the meaning of life until her life had been taken away. Life’s meaning is unique to each person. A religious person may believe that following God is the meaning of life. Then they experience a loss of their own and push God away, so their perspective of the meaning of life is altered. Therefore, in order for one to understand the meaning of life, they must have a confrontation with death.

Revenge is the only way to gain true justice.

well in my opinion i feel like the only way for me to get TRUE justice is to get revenge and have the person feel the same way. i understand the saying "an eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" but if someone was to hurt one of my family members i would have to take matters in my own hands because the law really doesnt give us any true justice. yes, the situation might get worse and somebody might get back at me but in my opinion i would have to do as much as i could to avenge my family no matter the cost. it may seem emoral but i wouldnt feel alright inside until i knew 100% that justice was served.

Peoples Immoral Choices Can Come Back To Haunt Them

I believe that this statement is true. I say this because of the consequences that come with wrong choices. No matter what your morals are there will always be things that others may see as immoral. Most of the time you will feel the consequences right away, as in stealing and going to jail. Other times we don’t get caught, but I believe that these choices still haunt us in the form of guilt and conscience.

Revenge is the only way to gain true justice.

I believe that revenge is the only way to get true justice, though it may not be the right way. Justice can be achieved through other means, such as jail time, fines, community service, etc, but I think that true justice, can only be achieved through revenge. There is no way to understand how someone feels, until the you have gone through the same circumstances as them. Each action has a different result, which can not be duplicated by jailtime. So, I believe that to get real justice, you have to make the other person fully understand how you felt, which would be in the form of revenge.

Evil often spirals out of control.

Evil is a very powerful thing. It can take over people very easily if they’re not aware or prepared. Evil can start out in small things that may not seem like a very big deal at the time. If a person allows these “little things” to slide and ignore them each time, then later on it will grow and eventually become a big thing. Evil may not always spiral out of control; it depends on the circumstance/person involved. However, if the person is not careful and doesn’t take care of the problem right away, then evil will manage to grow continuously.

#7 A person has to confront death in order to understand life's meaning.

A person doesn’t have to confront death in order to understand the meaning of life. Who’s to say that anybody can really understand the meaning of life? When someone has a death that happens close to them, they don’t necessarily just all of a sudden understand life. They may however have a greater appreciation of it, and want to do something with it, but that doesn’t mean that they truly understand the deeper meaning of life.

Families generally have a member’s best interest in mind.

It is true that Family members generally have their best internets in mind. For most families they all love each other. Sure the can fight, argue and get mad at each other but that just makes you stronger. No matter how much you may dislike it they will always be part of your family. Families got through so much together for the most part you love everyone in you family and truly want the very best for them. Of course there is some instances when this in not true for dome reason or another, but for the most part families generally have a member’s best interest in mind.

Power eventually corrupts the people who have it.

I agree that power eventually corrupts the people who have it. The essence of power is to hold it for as long as you can. Many people who have attained power to an extent become so engulfed in it, that eventually they become corrupt as a result of it. One easy example would be the rise to power that Hitler attained. Hitler rose to power and to ultimate power in Germany, but eventually became corrupt (or corrupt along the way) because of his indulgence in the power. Another suttle but equally important example would be the current example in recent times in AIG and BC Ferries, where top executives who hold such power in the companies eventually become corrupt and abuse the money in the companies which led to AIGs downfall and the whole banking recession in the United States. Therefore with much power and control, the people involved eventually become corrupt because of the debauchery in power.

  16. Revenge is the only way to gain true justice.

In many scenarios justice can be reasoned in different ways. If we are talking about a murderer, I believe revenge is the only way to gain true justice. To make a murderer realize what their actions have done to a person, they have to feel on every level what their victim went through. “23 But if there is serious injury, you are to take life for life, 24 eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, 25 burn for burn, wound for wound, bruise for bruise.” Exodus 21:23-25. I know this verse is from the Old Testament, but still it has a logical meaning. People have to have consequences for their actions. If we give murderers forgiveness and say please don’t do it again, it is likely that he will keep on being hurtful to the people around him. Consequences put morals into our decision making. We do good things because we fear what will happen if we make bad choices. Letting people get away without learning from their mistakes doesnt help anyone. Ultimately revenge is the most just consequence in many situations because we, as humans don’t know what another being is going through until we are put in their situation.

Evil often spirals out of control
I believe that evil spirals out of control more often than people think. Not just the large scale types or evil like murder, but small scale evil as well, such as lying and cheating. As soon as wrong, or "evil" has been committed, it is now out of your control. If you harm someone physically or emotionally, it is now there choice to either act on it, or let it go. Most everyone has heard the expression "the snowball effect", and I believe that when you've done evil, you've just pushed your snowball down the hill. You are now taking a chance on whether it crumbles away, or builds up out of control. I thinks it's best to not take any chances with your evil snowballs. You just never know how big of one you just might get hit by yourself.
